Chuck may or may not have found his mother during the climax of what shall now be known as “The Hotel Incident,” but we’re betting it’s the latter — may not. It was never truly clear if Elizabeth, the woman who was at Bart Bass’s grave and ultimately was part of Jack’s scheme to take Chuck’s hotel from him, is Chuck’s mom. What is known is that she loves (loved?) Jack and the actress looked a bit similar to Ed Westwick.
But step aside Ms. Fisher! Elizabeth Hurley and her fantastic British accent are in town for the mother of all secrets: She’s Charles’s mum!!!!!
In the S3 DVD commentary, tho, Stephanie Savage said that they filmed two endings to 3x16 — one where Elizabeth was Chuck’s mother and one where she wasn’t. She said they chose the one where she *was* Chuck’s mother because (and this is why I remember this, because it’s so stupid) they felt that it would be an insult to Chuck as a character to allow him to be taken in by a con artist. Yeah, *that’s* the part of the story line that was an insult to Chuck’s intelligence. Not the part where he couldn’t figure out how to get his hotel back without WHORING OUT ‘THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE’ TO HIS STEP-MOTHER’S WOULD-BE RAPIST. Nope, I’m still not over that story line.
Anyway, it annoys me that the writers specifically told fans that, yes, Elizabeth was Chuck’s real mother… and then she wasn’t. But I’m sure if someone asked the writers to explain the change, they’d say that Elizabeth was technically Chuck’s mother and is the real Elizabeth Bass, she just wasn’t Chuck’s biological mother. For some reason TV writers like to pretend they never make things up as they go along.
